Session recording policy
Last updated October 31, 2026
The short version
- We record a remote session only if you say yes before it starts. Saying no doesn't change your help or your price.
- You can stop the recording at any time.
- We don't record phone calls.
- Recordings are kept for 30 days and then deleted. You can ask for a copy, or ask us to delete one sooner.
California law (Penal Code section 632) requires everyone's consent before a confidential conversation is recorded. This policy explains how Nightshift Support asks for and respects that consent.
Why we offer recordings
A recording lets you see exactly what we did on your computer, and gives both of us a clear record if a question comes up later. It's an option for your benefit, not a requirement.
How we ask
- Before each remote session, we ask whether you want it recorded. We record only if you clearly say yes, out loud, in writing or by clicking a consent button in our software.
- Your yes covers that one session. We ask again next time, unless you give us standing consent in writing (for example, as part of a business retainer), which you can withdraw at any time.
- If you say no, we do the same work at the same price, without recording.
What is recorded
A session recording captures your screen while we are connected, and the audio of our conversation if we talk through the remote-support software. It may show anything on your screen during the session, so close any windows you don't want recorded before we start, and tell us if something private comes up. We'll pause or skip it.
Other people
If anyone else might be heard or seen during the session, such as a colleague, a family member, or someone on a video call, please tell them and make sure they agree, or let us know so we can pause the recording. We'll stop recording if anyone objects.
Stopping a recording
Tell us to stop at any time and we'll stop right away. You can also end the whole session yourself whenever you want.
Phone calls
We don't record phone calls. If that ever changes, we'll say so at the start of the call, before any recording begins, and update this policy first.
Storage, access and deletion
- Recordings are stored encrypted, and only Matt Sutton can access them.
- We use a recording only to show you the work, to answer questions about the job, or to resolve a dispute about it. We never share it, use it for marketing, or use it to train anything.
- We delete recordings 30 days after the session. If there is an open question or dispute about the job, we keep the recording until that is resolved, then delete it.
- You can ask for a copy of your recording, or ask us to delete it sooner, by emailing matt@nightshiftsupport.com.
